My DIY rollersPut a carpet knife blade on a piece of chip board (or what ever) and rotate the can against the tip of the blade. The blade will only make a cut to the can but doesn't go thru it. The next step is to make a hole to the can and tear the can open (i recommend using plyers as torn aluminum is very sharp). The can will tear exactly along the cut. This way the edge will become even and all pieces are equally high.
I also recommend filling the cans with gypsum or such. The aluminum is very very soft and it will definitely bend or get dented if there is nothing to support it.
