First, these were coined as "DIYumas" by Jose Garcia, for your archive search. He posted pix.1) Easiest method is to seat these roughly 1.25'1.5" diameter knobs into a 3/4" or 1" copper pipe cap. Various methods including seating them in silicone glue/caulking. I seat them in 2 successively larger diameters of rubber/poly pipe (same at HD), then use 2 sided carpet tape (thick kind) to seal them into the caps and fill any gaps. This is easier to see and do than to say!
2) If you have washers, glue and a pipe cutter handy ($3 @ HD), then you can construct a wider and shallower base by gluing washers in appropriate sizes to a thin section of cut copper pipe, then screw it all together (I still use the rubber hose sections too) into the base stem. This makes a nice looking and even more stable base at lower height than the 3/4" caps.
3) Look up Jose's "T-Bone" idea. It's a PVC pipe tripod arrangement that is equally easy cut and paste job and makes an even more stable base for speakers or heavier components.
