Introducing noise into the circuit seems counter productive to me, so I would avoid doing it by using a new source and a 12DC car relay. Use the power switch to power on the Phono stage, that is go from the + term on the battery, to the + on the Phono stage. Run the - term on the phono stage back to the - term on the battery. Then run a wire from the + terminal on the battery, to the coil of your relay, and connect the other coil terminal back to the - terminal of the battery. Find an LED with a common battery voltage level, one that can run @ 3.6 or so volts. Then run from 3 AA batteries in series, to one of sets of contacts which are normally closed when the relay is powerd on, from the opposite contact, a 30 Ohm resistor, to your + Led lead, and then back to the - battery terminal from the - lead of the Led. If the LED does not work, you most likely have the led's leads reversed. This will work with these Led's:http://ledsupply.com/led-catalog-5mm-leds.html
I have no idea if they have a minium order, but I would suspect that they do. Hope this helps.
