the thing about battery powered devices is that you want to turn them off when not in use to recharge them for the next time. No indicator on the box means you will most likely forget that some time and when you are just ready to go and catch some tunes, you'll find a dead battery...I put power LEDs and a battery checker circuit into my DACs, all before the power goes to a bank of capacitors to decouple battery and any potential LED noise from the circuit inside.
