Re: Answers for #2

I have not tried the continuous wrap since I've always had the thicker fiberglass to work with.

I'm having trouble understanding why the method would not produce an air-tight wrap, however. The compression of the outer cage should be sufficient to prevent any effective air travel between the layers (for air to leak thru the layers, it would have to travel all the way around the trap twice). I also would not worry about getting the overlap even - if you mark one of the support discs to note the starting point it should be easy to get exactly two layers around the inner cage.

Of course, if the posts you've seen were speaking of first-hand experiences, then you should probably heed the warnings, but make sure the warnings are in the same context as your project (same diameter trap, same type of fiberglass, etc.).

The glue you described in your reply sounds like it might work - run a test to see. I know silicone does work - I have used it before - but it does take a long time to dry and has a vinegar-type odor while drying (although I believe the odor is harmless - double check the label to be sure).
