Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

Hi All,I have had some success with the SQ&D traps, and I have some spare time now and would like to try making the full-blown, original tube trap (ASC Clone as per JR's site). I have the hogwire fence, the particle board circles, batting, burlap and fiberglass. I have two main questions, one regarding construction and one regarding the fiberglass itself.
1. Fiberglass: I have the Aerolite fiberglass. It is a density of 11kg/m3 and in 75mm thickness (roughly 3"). I plan to use this for the trap, wrapping two layers around the hogwire, making a total of around 6", and compressing it to around 2-2" inches with the second hogwire layer. Is there anything I should change to that plan?
2. Construction: this has to do with wrapping the fiberglass and making it airtight. What I plan is to wrap one layer around the hogwire, sealing up the seam with glue and glueing it to the particle board on either end with the glue too. Then wrap the second layer of fiberglass around this making up the total 6" thickness, but this time with the seam on the other side (180 degrees from the first one) and sealing as above. Will this be sufficient to make it airtight? Also which glue would be ok? I plan to use the not-so-viscous white general purpose hardware glue (we don't get brand names like 'Liquid Nails' here). Or do I need some special liquid/spray adhesive to close the seam of the fiberglass or to connect it to the particle board at either end?
Thanks in advance to JR and anyone else who has built these successfully with any advice.
Thanks and Regards,
X
