Most companies will provide a manufacturer with a reasonable quantity of samples of what they are interested in at no charge. If looking for a larger quantity than that, they will typically charge the standard wholesale price per quantity for the extra amount requested as a sample. As such, it would be quite possible to have had several dozen feet shipped for just a few dollars ( depending on the price per foot ).Sure, a company will happily send you samples of what they keep stock on. But if you're having something made for you, as Jonathan said he had, they ain't gonna send you any free samples.
