Thanks Werner, those sound fascinating, I'd never heard of them before. I don't think I've ever heard of such things being used in audio before.One problem I see is that you have to build the system just right to meet the weight of the system, One Size does NOT fit all! Which is why they would probably never be a commercial success.
I think I'm going to try throwing something together this weekend using some thin brass strips. It will be interesting to see if it works at all.
