I can't afford a "tweak" that'll cost me $720 for 4 feet! Tweaks are supposed to be minor adjustments not arm-and-leg overhauls. This magnetic idea is so frustrating; it seems to plausible and so perfect yet there's no feasible way of getting it to work properly. Though I did have one thought:
Let's say you build the mag-lev device but instead of using vertical posts you use an outer box. So your inner platform fits just inside the box and you have magnets holding the platform up. The problem is just like with posts: resonance is transmitted through the contact points to your top platform.
BUT, if you drop this box into a sand box then the sand which fully surrounds the box on 5/6 sides should neutralize most of the vibrations of the box while the magnetic levitation provides very good verticle dampening, provided you have ample magnetic support and relatively light equipment (which I do, at 20 lbs for my TT). Now hold the sandbox up with roller bearings for horizontal dampening and voila: horizontal dampening, verticle dampening, dead vibes throughout. If this didn't sound like a pain in the arse to build (and if I wasn't worried about the price of magnets; I have no idea what to expect on that front) I could slap one together next weekend.
