Owen,I haven't tried blutak, but I have used multi-layer butyl rubber and lead sheet laminations, on woofer, midrange and tweeter frames and magnets.
It is pretty effective, but interestingly enough, doing it only to the tweeter still yields favorable results. The top end becomes quieter, less prominent but cleaner, tones becomes purer, there seems to be less distortion, and imaging improves and becomes more solid.
You can overdo things, so as always, practice moderation and good taste.
