Mer,
My system is quite similar to yours: Bottlehead Foreplay pre and ParaSex amps with some older Energy 2-way speakers with an efficiency rating of ~89. Source is typically an LP-12. Sounds very good to my ears.I got a lot of improvement by relocating the speaker crossovers outside the cabinet, separating the tweeter and woofer sections of the crossover, and biwiring. At the same time, I replaced the stock crossover caps with North Creek Harmony and Zen caps and Sequa PIO bypasses. Bass is tighter and more authoritative and highs are sweeter with more air. Cost around $35.
Putting Audio Technica AT605 isolation pods under the Foreplay also made a vast improvement in the system, as did some bottom-of-the-line Harmonic Technology IC betweent the Foreplay and ParaSex monoblocks.
