Just a curiosity, Hamilton: Is the LT317 different from LM317? I ask this because I find that using LM317 in audio circuits, especially at preamp levels, ends up producing a small level of hum in the speakers. The hum increases if I add an electrolytic bypass at the output of the regulator. I am not sure if the hum is due to some ripple on the supply rail (a common feature of any linear regulator, I presume, due to the sensitivity and phase characteristics of the error amplifier), or due to any grounding problems. Do you have any experiences you could share?Tweaker John.
