>>Simply replacing thousands of microfarads with film caps is not going to be practical, but a careful placement of several good quality caps can improve things a great deal.<<I agree, but I figured if I got a positive response I would then contact Jensen and get a quote and find out exactly how much it would cost. If it was not to expensive (depending on how big of an improvement is expected), I would then go ahead with the upgrade.
The change would be made in a digital switching amp (i.e. TacT Millennium)wich currently have RIFA electrolytics which I presume to be of high quality (for an electrolytic).
These are the caps I am thinking of using:
http://inet.uni-c.dk/~tobjen/highvolt.htmJensen also has some other caps on the site that they say is "ideal for switching amps", but they are electrolytics so I'm not sure if they would be as good as the polypropelenes (sic?. I know you are familiar with Jensen's caps since you use them so I figured yould definitely know better than me as to which would be better for my application.
>>So I would not just do a wholesale replacement, but rather analyze the circuit in order to understand its sensitivity, and then address the weak spots.<<
Unfortunately, I definitely do not have the technical background to do that. :-( I just figured it would be an easy DIY job. Would the old caps just pop out and the new ones pop in? Or would there be soldering involved? Pretty soon I have to upgrade the amp to mk3 status (when the high speed digital formats are settled upon), so I was going to see if TacT would do it for me at the same time so that I do not void the warranty on something that will be upgraded so often.
Thanks for your help and expertise.
