It is very difficult to make blanket statements without being able to understand exactly what is there. Electrolytics and film capacitors can be seen as providing different functions, that overlap to some degree but not completely. For instance, in some cases you just must have that super-long time constant and very low voltage droop - so you naturally reach for big cans, film will simply not do in practical terms.Even more important, perhaps, is the fact that diferent circuits have completely different sensitivities to power supply bypass/filters. Typically, a single-ended circuit expects more from a power supply than some "perfectly balanced" one. One can sort of say that in the first case that filter cap is in series with the signal, while in the second one it is largelly excluded from the signal path.
Simply replacing thousands of microfarads with film caps is not going to be practical, but a careful placement of several good quality caps can improve things a great deal.
So I would not just do a wholesale replacement, but rather analyze the circuit in order to understand its sensitivity, and then address the weak spots.
