Yep the noise (very little caused by leaving muting transistors out is replaced by relais noise, clever NOT. As it cannot mute the whole time (no sound) I do not think it offers any protection against voltage spikesJust a qustion: what kind of opamp does the tjoeb use ??
the cd67 is allready very veiled when compared with a modded version..
I suggest you do something along the lines of the TNT-audio article by Thorsten..and AFAIK powersupply is pretty cruial if you use a better opampPersonally I like the approach of the Rik Stoet modded Marantz cd5000 better, here the whole opamp section is replaced (with glassware)instead of daisy chaining it with a valve outputstage. I haven't heard it yet though. Same price as a tjoeb though.
