Granite not the answer.

High mass bases are not the answer for valve kit - I've found that light, non-resonant isolation produces better dynamics and still cuts microphony.
High mass slows the bass down, composite lightweight structures do not and also increase perceived levels - very useful with weedy SETs!
Have a look at www.cetech.co.uk for more details about composite isolation - Russ Andrews's Torlyte is similar in concept, but cannot support the equipment weight that the Cetech carbon-fibre unit can, and to my eyes at least, doesn't look as good.

I use carbon-fibre composite isolation as shelves in a not very expensive rack and they have transformed its performance in a highly musical rather than hi-fi way.

You can also use this material as a substitute sub-chassis for LP12s, which addresses the production compromises that Linn have made in its construction.
