It's now down to a mere 180 mm (a bit over 7") from top of platform shelf to top of isolation shelf. Leave out the cones the thing sits on and the isolation layers are a mere 150 mm (6") thick on their own.Its a double layer sandwich separated by vibrapods. The bottom layer is around 1" thick granite damped top and bottom by sound damped masonite boards. The top layer is a ply/polystyrene sandwich.
It works quite nicely, with a lot of isolation elsewhere in the equipment rack and below the speaker stands. A large part of the reduction in height from 300 mm consisted of removing a second ply/polystyrene sandwich and relocating it under the amp. The rest of the reduction was basically because the vibrapods aren't as tall as the SoftShoes they replaced between the two layers.
Somebody named Ken Lyon said elsewhere in this thread "madness lies that way". He was wrong - madness sent me down this path :-).
My wife fears I haven't finished yet. I fear she's right.
