RE: 600V - I need a tube

Heyo!

I just wanted to blast out an update on the performance on the Gold Lion KT77 in a JTM45 (535V at the plate). It performed fantastically! I'm confident the KT77 will meet the demands of the aforementioned Super100.

So, a little background. The JTM45 went from tired big-boy 6CA7's, to JJ 6CA7's, to EH 6CA7's, and then the KT77's. The JJ's lasted about maybe 20 hours of play time. The EH quad had a meltdown after 5 hours. The KT77's got their 1 hour run yesterday with no bad symptoms.

First and foremost, the KT77's held! NO GLOW SHOW! Like little sentinels, they stood their ground (punny!). Not one sign of glowing cathodes, glowing screens, or red plating. I hope NSensor never changes anything for the worse!

Second, the tone was out of this world! The 6CA7 gave a certain low-end body to the amp, but almost unnecessarily so in retrospect. As makers go, the JJ 6CA7 had a sort of a nasty bite and neutrality. The EH 6CA7 sounded dark and a little honky (not unpleasant if it didn't burn up after 5 hours).

The KT77 cleaned up and rounded off some of the low-end, and made the upper registers a little more present, pleasantly rich and chimey, but smoother across the board (especially under breakup). There was only as much bite as I would dig into the guitar. I find the KT77 has made the JTM45 bluesier. The KT77 seems to overdrive more easily, and does with a silky flowing sustain rather than a harder clip typical of beam-forming plate designs.

Awesome tube. It'll be a mainstay for people's amps, for sure.

May your tubes be lively, warm, and long-lasting. Holy be thy heater.
