As far as I know, Bud (I.M. Fried) was a trust-fund baby, the kind who graduated from Harvard Law School... but he NEVER EVER EVER mentioned, gee, PASSING THE ACTUAL BAR EXAM, much less actually practicing law.
He indulged his passions and his fantasies; and yes, he did bring in some interesting products.
He both sold kits, and he also had a reputation AMONG DEALERS as someone who sold behind his dealers, so... as I recall, he never had more than a handful of dealers, at a time (the 1970s) when even a marginal US company might have 30 to 50 dealers.
All that said, for a "2 Cubic Foot BBC-Style Monitor," Fried's R3 struck me as having the most amazingly lifelike midrange, in that time span.
I had: Q2s, C3s, and C4s, and what O woofer modules?
I got out of Friedland, and I bought Spendor SP1s.
