The least mechanical sounding speaker I've ever heard. There is actually a pair of VSMs listed for $2,700 (not mine) right now. The only issue that you may run into is the 1 meter from the wall--most speakers like a little more room to breath. From what you described, I agree with the Merlin, Quad, Vandersteen and Magnepan recomendations--not so much the ATC and their English counterparts (all fine speakers, just not what you described--unless close wall placement can't be negotiated).
