Look at how much money repairs are for those ProAc speakers. Not much really and that assumes there are any repairs needed. More expensive speakers tend to use higher quality parts. If you like the sound of the ProAc better than the sound of the Energy then to me this is a simple choice. It is far less about money than it is about design. My speakers are $3500.00US new but I like the sound of them far far more than the sound of the B&W N801 or the Wilson Sophia both of which run well over $10k.
It's about the sound and your preferences than it is about spending money for the sake of it. I prefer the sound of ProAc to the sound of Energy so in this instance buying new would not save me any money -- but hey you can buy em used even with a refoaming or re capping if they sound better - used is the better way to go.
