What musician do you most respect as a person?

What musician do you respect most as a person, and why? Musical ability plays no part here. Individual can be living or dead. I was thinking along the lines of Jim Croce or Harry Chapin, but I'll ultimately go with the late Ronnie Van Zandt of Lynyrd Skynyrd. From everything I've read and heard about him, he was as down-to-earth as a rock star could possibly be--no mean feat. My cousin met him when he roadied for Charlie Daniels back in the day--and this was at the height of Skynyrd's fame--and they spent the day BSing, throwing back a ton of beers, and fishing (Ronnie apparently LOVED to fish). He had wealth and fame beyond most people's imagination, yet he carried himself with a dignity, humility and pride that belied his stature. Reading his lyrics is like having a ringside seat to a man struggling to remain, as he wrote, a "simple man" in an increasingly complex world. My wife lived near the Van Zandt's house in Jacksonville, and every time we're down there, we take a drive down the block and reminisce. To this day, I still miss Ronnie, and I never met the man. He was one of a kind.
