Congress formed the Presidio Trust, which had to partner with the National Park Service, to make the Presidio self-sustaining by a certain date. The Presidio actually beat that goal, by a good number of years. Initially, Lucasfilm was the major tenant. Then non-profits started to have offices. After Japantown Bowl closed in 2000, some bowlers then went to Presidio Bowl.
Geez, back in middle school, when I was on a PAL baseball team, our home games were played in the Presidio.
When I got to high school, one of my classmates actually lived in the Presidio. His dad was an Army officer. Because of this, I think it was the summer of 1988, when he invited some of his friends. Because of his military base access, he brought us to a hill, near Fort Point. From there, we got a nice view of the July 4 fireworks over the Bay. Luckily, that night was fog-free.
