With a happy heart, I'd like to announce my recent move to Iceland! Just two weeks ago now. :)
Of course, as part of my extreme downsizing before the move from Alaska, including concerns of electrical voltage differences, I've also liquidated my usual collection of two audio systems (big one, and small/experimental one). They both went to good homes, with good friends, so I'm happy about that. If I were thinking in terms of cash, I lost several tens of thousands, as I gave one system away entirely free of charge, and "sold" one at a loss of about 90 percent (friend loved the sound, didn't have much money, and I wanted him to have it). It's all good, and I'm happy, as my primary focus at the moment remains live performance of my beloved Baroque, and I'm loving the vibrant creative community here (music and all arts). As an escaped refugee of the USA, I'm instantly back to being with and working with my friends throughout Europe.
Now, I'm thinking of starting over on audio system(s). Since I'm still staying with friends here in Iceland for the moment, I'm thinking of starting small and very modest. At least a step up from earbuds.
Haven't yet been to an audio shop in Reykjavik, nor have I been online to see what's available in the new or used market. There is time. First, I found a good violin maker--just yesterday--to get a bow re-hair, and to establish a good relationship with a good craftsman. Mission accomplished.
Most of my friends here, and others I'm meeting through them every day are performers of all sorts of music (and filmmakers, etc.), so I have no doubt they'll be helping me navigate the local audio equipment market as well.
Just wanted to say "hello" again, and I'll be keeping in touch when I have time. I'm already very busy here and elsewhere. :)
