Of course, I was referring to the individuals who dismissed the chip, out of hand, without trying it, or analyzing it.
For the record, I only tried someone's chip at the CES, but it was with pretty good equipment, and small changes, such as polarity, could be generally heard with a system of this quality. The $6,000 price for the mono power amps was the cheapest part of the system that we used. The total system cost would total more than $50,000 if someone actually wanted one just like it.
Now why do I point this out? Because many of you simply have no idea what hi end audio is, and because it is priced outside your interest or ability to afford it. There is nothing wrong with this, I presonally would like to have a Porsche Boxter S, but I can't afford it either. If I had an extra $50,000, I would buy the Porsche Boxter, but my associate Bob Crump is working to own the $50,000 system we used at the show. That is his choice on where he wants to put his extra income. For someone else, it might be a new house or their kid's college education.
Now what do we get when we make a hi end audio system? We get resolution, and a taste of the reality of the original performance. It is difficult to do this, even though everything seems to sound the same in an ABX test, and therefore many people think that we have achieved some level of hi fi nirvana, even with mid fi equipment. However, when it is 'right' almost anyone will hear it.
Now when it comes to this chip. I have little or no idea how this chip can actually work. The last course in quantum mechanics that I took, was 40 years ago, and I didn't like atomic physics anyway. However, engineering physics is very necessary, in my opinion, to fully understand how to design audio products, and a well rounded exposure to virtually all facets of audio reproduction can be useful as well.
In the last 10 years, I have found the physics of materials fascinating, and I try to keep an open mind about phenomena that don't make any sense at first, but could have an explanation besides just a placebo. ALL that I have asked of people on this website, is to keep an open mind.
