Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: The potential of different recording formats

As I wrote here a couple of weeks ago on this subject, Peter feels that SACD adds something unnatural to the sound and so has resisted developing a player for such discs. Of course that begs the question of what an AN SACD player would sound like, since it would presumably have some of the attributes of AN RB dacs.

My sense is that he likes what his dacs do to and for RB, doesn't much like what he hears from SACD's, and so has decided not to bet his modest research and development dollars on that horse. Instead, he has upgraded his digital transports, most recently with improved power supplies (he doesn't like the sound of DVD transports); and put the rest of AN's attention on new turntables. Vinyl has always been his priority, which tells you pretty much all you need to know about his particular pair of ears. I am not the person to put words in his mouth, but what I've said here is based pretty closely on conversations we've had recently when I put the SACD/CD question to him again.

Perhaps you could put the question to him directly.
