When I listened to it and bought the A3CD many years ago, I immediately bought a DAC and connected the digital output of the A3CD to the DAC and used the A3CD as a transport only.
I also opened it up, it has a really small motherboard, the Sony based transport they used in it is still working 7 years later however.
Get a good DAC, either that or just get into PC Audio and save yourself the trouble. The CD players have been going down in quality in all levels of the business from the high-end to the mass market. It's a shame, and they don't make them like they used to. I would probably say a used Esoteric will get you better sound, there's not many cd players out there that are any good. I wasted $1,800 on a cd player recently, complete garbage nowadays, all cheaply made, not tested, and it's a sad sign.
