like the owner may not understand the initialization process. If you try to use the controls before it's completed it will not always recognize the command(s). I'd ask if they tried to use the controls before the Apollo was finished with initialization; if they did then it's not a fault with the Apollo but a fault with the owner not reading the instructions.I would also ask the owner specifically how long it takes to initialize; 5 to 10 seconds is typical for startup. With some home recorded cdr's it can take longer. I don't fault the Apollo; rather, it's probably a poorly recorded cdr. The Apollo seems to be somewhat sensitive about correctly recognizing and playing poorly recorded cdr's. I've never had a problem with commercially produced music cds.
Rega should have taken care of most all the first run problems and if anyone has had problems since then it's covered under warranty. If the owner has a problem and is unwilling to work with the dealer and Rega to get the problem resolved, then it may be that it's not a legitimate unit and I'd be suspicious of it. I'd ask the owner about that as well.
Tom
