If you don't like the sonic qualities, you can find that out quickly. No need for what you suggested. It's the transport and optics that go first and this advice is 100% on. It is 100% on for new purchases, too. Believe me, there are CDPs out there costing $2000 and more that would not pass this test to my satisfaction. What point are good sonic qualities in a CDP if it takes 20 seconds to read the first track? Inexcusable.
