If you have your CX-7 upgraded to the "e" version, everything gets fully upgraded to the latest level. The performance is identical to a new unit. Older units cost more to upgrade as there are more things to change (eg, the transport mechanism).The XLR's on the CX-7 are tin plated. This was a choice of the lesser of evils. Silver is awesome when new, but over time will form (partially conductive) oxides and (non-conductive) sulfides. Gold is done over a nickel underlay, the latter causing sonic problems. The best is rhodium over silver, but for some strange reason, nobody makes a chassis-mount XLR like this. So tin is the least problematic choice.
