Having owned the CDP-2 for some months now, I can state with confidence that IMS, it is NOWHERE near edgy or too crisp. Forward, yes, it puts the sound just in front of the speaker plane if that's what you mean. I happen to like that as it gives 'presence' to the sound without artificial bloom. It is not at all cursed with digital 'nasties' of any kind and I can listen to it for hours on end. The DAC is also quite an overachiever.
