Not really sure what your goal is -
'making a cable that samples the signal'
cables carry the signal from one device to another - typically from a source to an amp / Pre-amp then to a transducer/speaker - or instrument (like an O-scope, Distortion analyzer...)

Adding resistors to the wire will change the signal

there is an FAQ section of the asylum that can help explain common topologies
