RE: Tinned copper is normal, to indicate polarity.

The white strand is not magnetic. When scraped it does not change color. My guess is that is aluminum, can't be sure.

I have used similar wire in the past, it seemed to work ok. I would prefer all copper, but it will do in a pinch. Will not use it outdoors - corrosion pron.
