Oh I don't spend a lot for cables. There are marvels on AliExpress - that's where the best PC I own come from. The most expensive is about 150USD. You can't find the same quality for that amount anywhere else (sorry, china haters).
I don't fiddle much, to be honest: if I need a power cable, I buy one, if it sounds disappointing or has negative impact, I try it on another piece of equipment until it works. But I don't allow it to give me headaches. Once a pC gives me satisfying result combined to a given piece of equipment, it usually stays there, and is basically forgotten.
