I can't find the schematic anywhere. It's full of micamold caps that have a dot marking system.
Anyone know of a schematic or the painted dot values?
The tuner was a option on a Magnavox 155B radio.
The SW and AM are excellent

I'm thinking of just putting another small FM tuner to replace it but it would really be great with this original working. I am willing to pay for it. It won't be the same without the original. The tuner fires up, the green eye (6U5) glows. Doesn't flinch whlie tuning. No audio output at all.

there is a lot of 1940's vintage guys there...
to do a proper alignment, for FM 88-108, you may need special equipment..
if you post or search you model & chassis Number there I'm sure you'll fine info

The trouble with doing nothing, is that you can't tell when you are finished.
Chassis number? (CR-xxx) Probably covered in Sams, maybe in Riders:

There was a very faded purple 206 stamp on the back of the chassis.
I looked up cr-206 and that's it!
Looks like a lot of .01 UF 600V caps are getting replaced

After you get the kinks out, you can think about stereo. ;> ) Tap into the FM detector's O/P before the de-emphasis network. MASTER DIYer Steve Bench has provided us with a nice MPX adapter design. Yes, it's IC based, but considering the "pedigree" I don't think there will be any sonic issues.

Someone's already sent you the link so this may be moot but there were about 1/2 dozen various "dot" cap coding schemes depending on use, industry, military, etc. Usually it's easy to figure out which one you're working with but sometimes one of the colors fades or white turns yellow or red turns brown, etc. and it throws you off. In general they were, as noted, just simple waxed paper caps and now leaky as hell in a particular case style (also easy to "gut" and insert a modern cap within) - the mica ones usually had "mica" melted into the plastic case somewhere (and their own coding system usually). Lastly if it's that early I suspect that you realize it is the old, low frequency, FM band that was given over to a few television channels before the current 88-108 was adopted so even perfectly restored you might not be able to receive anything.

Dial also show "channels" 200 to 300
The tuner is dead. It should at least pick up static or atmoshperic pressure. I at least need to get a signal. my gut tells me David Dye will be playing me some great stuff through it soon. Hopefully. Gonna test them tubes now

Sorry, faulty memory - can't remember perzactly what year the FM band was moved up but you've got the modern one. When I get a chance I'll provide to frequencies of the old band and when it was moved but you're machine was made really close to the time that it was bumped up.

My grandparents had this old late 1940's AM/FM/SW console. It had a wonderful tone. I remember looking at the back and seeing many coke bottle tubes. I remember a 6V6G. And a field coil speaker.
That unit still worked in the late 1980's. They unfortunately sold the unit to someone else before asking me.

Most of those caps don't fail easily, did you check all of the tubes? Going to replace all of the old wax caps/electrolytics?

Rickl....Would it be possible to post a picture of your
Chairside radio's front panel? I've got an empty cabinet
with no electronics and haven't seen a picture of the radio.
I believe my cabinet to be from the early 40's.

of the radio faceplate, dials, etc. in case one shows up on e-bay
I believe the picture you show is from the early 50's. Mine which
has no electronics, is probably early 40's and a picture is hopefully
attatched.
