In Reply to: 6922 tubes, sovtek, philips...which is best? posted by John Sanford on February 21, 2002 at 07:56:46:
Friends and I did this very tube replacement on a ARC LS15 recently.Replacing the Sovtek 6922's with the JAN Phillips improved both the warmth and dynamics of the preamp quite a bit.The only downside was a slight loss of pinpoint placement of instruments in the soundstage. We all felt it was a equitable tradeoff and the Phillips tubes will be staying where they are. In fact, it brought the preamp much closer to the sound of an SP-8 in direct comparison.I hope this helps.
Follow Ups:
Interesting as Vacuum Tube Valley said stay clear of the JAN-Philips because they are unstable and microphonic/noisy.Their advise, use the JJ 6922.
Any thoughts?

John- I've never found the JAN Phillips 6922's to be microphonic in the preamps we've tryed them in, and they were certainly as quiet as the Sovteks they replaced.I've found them to be very reliable (as are the Sovteks I believe). I have not tried the Tesla's - they may well be better and are also relatively cheap.
