Hi folks. Newbie question. I've got a Behringer ECM-8000 measurement mic and a cheapo mixing board (Behringer Eurorack UB802) with two Phantom-powered Mic inputs. When I hook it up, (listening through fones) I hear an intermittent rustling noise. It's like wind, sortof, or nylon, but this is inside, and there is no wind, and nothing is moving. It's pretty loud. Can somebody tell me what this is and how to fix it.?
Follow Ups:
"I hear an intermittent rustling noise. It's like wind, sortof, or nylon, but this is inside, and there is no wind, and nothing is moving. It's pretty loud."Are you sure it isn't just the mic cord brushing against something?
Or your breath on the mic. Or background noise. All mic systems are going to output some noise, and if you turn up the gain enough, you will get hiss that will change according to where the mic is, where the cord is placed, etc.
If you are a beginner to microphones, mics are very sensitive. They pick up sounds that you don't usually notice. Especially if the gain is turned up and you are using headphones.

This is with the mic cord completely still, the mic on its stand, and nothing else moving. There is some ambient noise, but it's all identifiable through the phones. This is something else, much louder, as if someone is brushing up against the microphone, or a pretty strong wind blowing across it. But the windows are closed, I'm alone, and I'm on the other side of the room (ghosts?). I certainly considered the possibility that it could be a real noise amplified, but if it is I'll be damned if I could figure out what it was or where it came from.
...an old vacuum tube in there that needs replacing. But I don't think Behringer use tubes in thir mixers...

Op amp noise?Noisey pot?
Bad slider?
Try different channels
Could be one channel
Try a different mic to see if its the mic or the electronics
It's called 'you get what you pay for'. The ECM mic is actually pretty good, but that board is a piece of junk.

Yeah, that's what I figured, even if Mr. Behringer DOES say that these boards are "the best he's ever designed." $50 is $50.
I needed a pre with phantom for my ECM. I considered the Behringer, for about two minutes. For the same price the Behringer had two channels, EQ, etc,etc while an ART pre had one channel and one knob. I figured that the Behringer was offering too much for too little, went with the ART, glad I did.

I've used the 1220FX Pro for a year, pretty heavily. Had no problems at all. The mic pre.s are very high gain and very quiet, as are the faders and all the processors and equalizers. One or two of the effects are very nice. And recordings made onto tape are fine. So, with 6 XLR inputs and another 2 line level stereo channels, which I need for recording a four-piece, it's unbeatable for a hobbyist at $180. Sounds as good as my buddy's Mackie. But then again, to my ears, the PG58 sounds the same as the SM58.
