I just got 4 2446H compression drivers and 4 horns - 2 jbl 2382a, and 2 clone 2382. What would be the ADVANTAGE to put a two driver adapter on the authentic jbl horns over using 4 seperate complete "sets" of drivers and horns. Are there any DISADVANTAGES to using the 2 driver adaptor? For example; compression induced distortion, beaming, less db/watt vs. seperate horns, etc.
thanks for the input!

So, you bought the hardware before you knew how you were going to apply it? Have I got that right?
Gee - thanks for the input. I have an open mind and am considering several options, as a true professional (as suggested by the name of this forum). Simple hardware purchases do not a system make.
Actually, I am consiering building 2 systems or one larger one.Posts like yours are the main reason real, working pros don't usually bother with this kind of discussion....
I'm out.
Adaptor advantage: more power handling in less space.
Adaptor disadvantages: comb-filtering where the two throats merge into one; possibility of overloading the horn throat; no real gain in SPL beyond halving the impedance to the amplifier; extra cost of the adaptors.
If you use all four horns and stack pairs of them vertically, coupling the horn mouths as closely as possible, you'll avoid most of the combing and get a higher system gain, overall (assuming that you intend to use 2 drivers per side). Pair up the JBL horns for one side and the Copies for the other side if you're running stereo, just in case there's enough sonic difference that you'll have to EQ them separately.
Personally, the only way I'd use a two-into-one adaptor is if I were using two different kinds of compression drivers on the same horn, like a midrange and a tweeter with a crossover between them.

good points. that's about what I thought. I'll map out the dispersion/spl and decide to either build a single cab for 2 horns, or one each.
