Howdy.
I just picked up a real cherry Dual 721 from a garage sale for $35 to supplement my loved 701. With the wife gone for the day, I settled in to do some A/B comparisons of the two. Same system, same cartridge, just swapped between the two tables. I've always heard that the 701 was the better-sounding TT, despite the advanced arm on the 721. So what I heard surprised me.
The 721 just reaches out and grabs me; I can't think of another way to put it. Almost as if a muting layer had been lifted. More bass, highs, detail, on and on. Now it has me wondering if my mods to the 701 (caulked platter to deaden, changed ICs) have affected it negatively somehow without me noticing...
I don't know if I lucked onto a hotrodded 721 or what, but I thought I'd post this in defense of the 721.
It makes waiting for that great deal on a Lenco 88/99 a little easier.
