Hi everyone. I currently run a Dual 701 with a Grado Gold cartridge. A friend recently gave me his Dual 1019. The 1019 will be used for LP's mostly, but the occasional 78 as well. I'm looking for cartridge recommendations that will sound real nice with LP's, but allow me to swap the stylus for 78's.
I've heard that the Dual turntables have a low-mass tone arm, but don't know what qualities make a good cartridge for this type of arm. I've also heard that the some cartridges (including the Grado) don't work with some Duals because those turntable aren't grounded (causing hum problems). So I'm looking for feedback from people with experience in these matters. Is the Stanton 681EEE a good choice? I have one that needs a stylus. I'd hate to waste $140 for the replacements (LP & 78) only to find that there is a hum problem. What cartridges should I be exploring? Your feedback is appreciated.
