TKD 2CP-2511MC vs. ALPS Blue Velvet RK27112MC Potentiometer
I am thinking about upgrading a motorized potentiometer in my preamp & making it quad channel at the same time by bolting 2 stereo preamps together. Wondering if any of you have experience with this.
The Pin-outs are different on the 2 pots. Currently, the 2CP-2511MC is soldered to a small circuit board & I will have to unsolder it & use wires from the new RK27112MC to the board because the pin-outs are spaced differently.
I want to change an ALPS Blue Velvet RK27112MC 100k for a TKD 2CP-2511MC 100k twice (both the Volume & Balance on existing unit will become left 2-Channel & right 2-Channel remote volume control). Now it's a Quad unit!

Currently the preamp: a Classe Audio DR-6 with a factory upgrade to remote control (volume, balance, mute). This includes an additional circuit board which drives the pots & handles the remote control, & a modified power supply with the extra power for this board. I'll post a Picture of this circuit board later.
What is the point of all this?
1. TKD is better sounding, I believe.
2. Separating left & right channels into separate controls.
3. I was going to go nuts with a discrete stepped attenuator using z-foil resistors & a Seiden 58 step 8-deck, but keeping the Classe Audio remote control circuitry does make it more authentic. Because the Classe dr-6 had a Black Beauty & they "down graded" to the blue motor control version, I feel comfortable with the change. I will need a separate DR series chassis for the Stepped attenuator anyways because it is HUGE!!! see: http://ns.tachyon.co.jp/~sichoya/seiden/74gif/74009.html
3. This is to be a part of a "Computer Audiophile" playback system for high-Rez music at 192kHz 24bit with computer crossover & room correction.
4. Quad setup now (Bi-Amping), maybe 6 Channel later(Tri-Amping). (Yes I have 2 x DR-6 & will be putting them together into one unit!)
ANYONE HAVE A QUAD TKD 4CP-2511MC TO SELL to me? (I'm hoping to make this a 6 channel upgrade!!)
Anyone with a dead DR series preamp? (I could use the case for my stepped attenuator project)
I might be selling from this upgrade one each:
Blue Velvet Balance RK27112 100k &
Black Beauty Stereo Volume RK40 100k http://www.flickr.com/photos/goa2008/4133073704/
The two preamps are shown in the pictures. One of the faceplates was changed by Classe during the remote control upgrade which is why they look different (a "6" was put onto a "DR-6" but silkscreened with the "DR-6" typeface & layout...) Amazing what they'll do if you pay them.
Thanks, Bill.
