PCC88 tubes versus ECC88 tubes for EAR source units

I have the Acute CD player and 88PB phono stage, which both use PCC88 tubes.

TdP has specifically told me not to mix the PCC88 tubes with ECC88/E88CC/E188CC tubes, no matter what. The circuit for both units provides a heater voltage of 7 volts for PCC88 tubes and not 6.3 volts required for ECC88/E88CC/E188CC tubes.

Having said that, TdP has said it is fine to use ECC88/E88CC/E188CC tubes in place of PCC88 tubes within these units, as they operate within the 5% tolerance limit of the PCC88 tube's heater voltage (that is, 6.615 volts versus 6.65 volts). Whatever tube you decide to roll with, just make sure you stick with same type of tube in both channels at all times.

I am currently using Philips Miniwatt E188CC VR5 delta2E2 tubes in my Acute CD player with good results.
