The Technics SE-AX & MK2 amp(s) ARE NOT part of Matsushita's (Panasonic/National/Quasar) "everyday" consumer series! The SE line represented "the creme de la creme" from Technics' R&B catalogue, and were designed for a rather brief time period when research investment and developement costs mattered little. The goal was simple, pure sound inovation not matter a R2R, turntable, cassette, eq, tuner etc. As production versions of the unobtainable SE-A1 and SU-A2 the electronic engineering technology was passed down to the SE3/5/7 easily surpassing amps TODAY from (take your pick), which although similar in hard specs are nowhere near in stunning aesthetics. Personally, I was unable to afford the "bronze" R&B prosumer gear during the party heyday. Only recently has my fledgling collection been fleshed out, over a long period of time, while patiently waiting for Technics collectors to sell off their gems or "kick the bucket" estate sales. I encourage audiophiles on this forum to examine any of the SE-A amplifier lineup aka "New Class A or AA or MK2's" that they might stumble across a give-away prices. As long as these amplifiers are in decent mechanical condition, dollar for dollar, you might NEVER find a better value. Why? Simply because like Nakamichi, Matsushita was simply a proud asian powerhouse, chock full of in-house electical engineering genius that were ready, and able to manufacture marvels at all price ranges. Yes, due to the rising currency, Technics in subsequent years sadly did peddle tons of plastic mid-fi almost ruining a hard won reputation for quality, to satisfy the corporate bean counters and Joe Q Public's un-quenchable thirst for cheap home theater gear. This is why that period R&B gear is reffered to as the Guilded or Golden age of Hifi.
