Although Cafe Maiko now have stores across the country, they actually started in Honolulu. They were known for sourcing their matcha from Kyoto, Japan.

That said, Cafe Maiko are popular for soft serve. Here in San Francisco, Cafe Maiko have three locations: Chinatown, Japantown, and Stonestown. Each store has one soft serve machine, which has vanilla and/or matcha. The other machine can have other flavors.

Now, Cafe Maiko is one of the few places, where you can get soft serve draped in gold foil. I personally do not feel that the gold foil positively augments the flavor or texture. But don't let that influence you. You will just have to try it for yourself.
