Your experience is unusual. One suggestion is to isolate the problem, there are preamp out and amp in RCA's in the back. I suggest you plug in some kind of source that has a volume control and check the amplifier stage. And if you have access to an amplifier, connect it to preamp out. Speaking of these connections, you have jumpers on your connecting internal preamp to amp?
