Hi all,
I've got a newbie question about measuring the filament voltages of the Sherwood S-5500ii power transformer. With the PT out of the chassis, the filament voltages, measured from the center tap, measure ~7.xVAC, and ~3.5VAC.
The B+ and bias secondaries measure within spec.
What my inexperienced self tells me: that one leg of the filament secondary is shorting to itself and putting out half the spec'd voltage. That this PT is toast, basically. That I need to find a replacement.
What I'm hoping is that some crusty old hand will come along and pat me on my graying head and tell me, "Don't worry son, it's not really broken. Put 'er back in and fire her up!" And then proceed to enlighten me on what's really going on.
But...that's not really going to happen, is it?
Sadly,
James
