I got my Father-in-Law's AR-3s out of storage and tested one AR-3 at a time on the RHS wiring while I had my much newer Infinity speaker on the LHS wiring of my stereo.
In both cases I connected my speaker wiring to terminals 1 and 2, and the mid-range (mid) and tweeter (hi) knobs were set pointing to the dots, per the instructions on the backside. Wire connector between terminals 2 and T on both in place and intact (see photos).
Both speakers produced clear sound, but clearly just the bass speakers were working. Adjusting via the mid and hi knobs made no difference, as did reversing the polarity of the speaker wiring.
So, I took the terminal 2 and T knobs/washers and the connectors off both speakers. I then lightly sprayed with electronics cleaner and gently used a nylon Dremel brush set on high speed (including the terminal knob seats) to clean all contacting surfaces of decades-old oxidation and reassembled.
I repeated the tests noted above with no improvement.
The cloth on both are in perfect condition and I'm hoping that I don't need to remove and perhaps tear them up.
Suggestions?
Best,
Thom
