I just replaced a Sansui TU-217 (sounds great on strong signals) with a TU-717 so I can consistently pull in a weak station in stereo at 50+ miles. The TU-717 did the trick on that distant station. But now I have a new problem and it's driving me batty. When listening to a powerful local station (2 miles away), I get very noisy intermitten interference in two situations: when I move around the house, especially when going through doorways or past windows, and when the furnace first kicks on, for the first 30 seconds or so of its cycle. This interference only happens with the strong local station, not with the distant stations. The muting, etc., switches work wonders on less noisy interference but not on this problem. My antenna is a Magnum Dynalab whip positioned about 40 feet away from the tuner, high up in my 2nd floor. Should I shield the antenna on the back of the tuner with an RFI sheet so that the whip antenna is the only source? Any ideas? I apologize if this sort of thing has been discussed a lot; I don't know the terms to search for. Thanks in advance.
