Hi, Denny!Pardon the intrusion here, but I happen to own a Sansui TU-9900 in stock form and think it sounds pretty darned good just the way it is!
If you want to extract the best sound out of the tuner, perhaps you should lobby the radio station engineers in your local area and encourage them to remove their Optimods and other nefarious junk in the signal path en route to the transmitter!
The Sansui TU-9900 is a very nice sounding tuner, overall, and it almost compares favorably with my restored Yamaha CT-7000s.
Better hurry and get yours upgraded before there is no more quality left in FM broadcasting.
Out here in Northern California, stations like KPIG offer better, more interesting programming even on their AM rig than most local FMers thesse days.
