Which tuner to get and getting the most from it. Thank God, for the radio!

Re: tube vs. transitor

Hello, Erik:

This topic has been discussed endlessly hereabouts. Do a search in the database to find numerous replies.

Basically speaking:

Tube tuners:

Sound somewhat better than some solid-state tuners--perhaps more "euphoric".

They keep your toes warm at night

They also require occasional human intervention, such as nit-picky checking on the condition of tubes, aging parts, drifting off-frequency and all sorts of nifty things to keep you hopping about!

And, they are cool to look at in a darkened room.

Then, there is the issue of what is left to listen to on the air which warrants a re-examination of the issue of owning the exotic ones.

Unfortunately, I also like solid-state tuners, even though I own some of the best tube tuners ever made. Even so, I have not operated many of my fine FM tuners in quite a while.

I hope I made the option of owning a tube tuner sound incredibly atractive to you. Now, just go out and get one and start stashing those spare tubes for your new hobby---regular tuner maintenance!

Just kidding, of course!

I like tuners both in the land of the valve and solid-state. That's why I have more than single examples of them all!
